The 68-acre coffee and spice estate is covered with a dense canopy of evergreen trees, surrounded by tea estate on one side and a forest reserve on the other.
A little known plantation town, amidst the western ghats of Palakkad district, Nelliyampathies is known for its misty mountains, twisty roads, enchanting waterfalls & of course the plantations.
It derived its name from the gooseberry trees, (Nelli in Malayalam), that are found abundantly in the area.
The history of this quint town dates back to the 1800s when the British planters leased land from Cochin and Kollangode Raj, and turned them into coffee, tea, orange & spice plantations.
The oranges from Nelliyampathy were so delicious that they were shipped directly to the Queen of England.
